Friday Church Service

New Birth Offers New Additional Church Worship Service

Friday, July 16, 2021

Many struggle with making church attendance a part of their life.  Many times, it's because of their work schedule requires weekends and nights which is when most if not all church services are held.

In an effort to make church services available to many who may simply not be able to attend, or, for anyone looking for a church service during an alternate time, New Birth Baptist will begin offering a Friday morning service at 10:00am.   Pastor Dwayne Young, a former paramedic who experienced the difficulties of attending church because of non 8-5 job hours, has been praying and researching the potential need.  "I understand the struggle many may have with the busy work schedules and all-night shifts that are part of our society today.  Law enforcement, EMS, fire, 9-1-1 Telecommunicators, and healthcare workers are on the job when we have our 'normal' church times.  Just maybe if we offered more access to church, more people could be involved", says Pastor Dwayne.

Church attendance overall is in decline.  In an article published by Lifeway Christian Resources the author references the potential reasons for declining attendance; their fourth reason and potential solution listed is, "Offer more options for worship times. Our culture is now a 24/7 population. Some members have to work during the times of worship services. If possible, give them options. One businessman recently told me that he changed congregations to a church that offered a Saturday worship time because his job required him to catch a plane on Sunday morning."   (You may read the entire story here.)

Victoria Redmon, who has attended New Birth in the past, has been an advocate for the additional service time.  When asked what her number one reason is for not attending church as often as she would like, she answered, "Work.  I work a crazy schedule."

In conclusion, "Our church wishes to be available to the people.  This may be seen as compromising the Sunday worship service to some but I see it as making the Gospel even more available to many who may feel left out or who just need another time to go to church," says Pastor Dwayne Young.
